Introducing Lofoten Seaweed
There’s more than fish in the sea
Did you know Lofoten is famous for more than just fish? There’s another type of seafood growing deep in the waters of this archipelago. Seaweed from the Arctic grows in some of the world’s cleanest waters, and is renowned for its exceptional quality and taste. Its capacity for rapid regrowth makes it one of the most sustainable food sources in the world, with experts believing it to be key in the fight against both climate change and world hunger.
Bringing seaweed back into the modern kitchen
Amongst the fishermen of the village Napp, two women are on a mission – to bring seaweed back into the modern kitchen. Lofoten Seaweed was founded by fisherman’s daughter Angelita - who grew up in Lofoten working for her father from the age of 10 cutting fish tongues and baiting longlines - and her foodie friend Tamara, who was served seaweed for every meal by her Japanese mother. Influenced by their heritages, they combine the world’s purest seafood with their cherished culinary traditions.
Despite their different backgrounds they are united by the same belief - that the future of food lies in the ocean. Their seaweed is hand-harvested in the cold, nutrient-rich waters of Nappstraumen: the world’s fourth-fastest tidal current. They focus on sustainable harvesting methods and create innovative seaweed products for the everyday home cook, right from ocean to plate.
