Lofoten – the perfect place for a fishing trip
Eager to go on a fishing trip? Here at Lofoten Havfiske we offer fishing trips with experienced guides, showing you how to catch the big fish.
Lofoten, an archipelago in northern Norway, is often considered a paradise for fishing enthusiasts for several compelling reasons. Here's why it's an ideal destination for a fishing trip:
1. Rich Marine Life
The nutrient-rich Arctic waters create an ideal environment for fish, leading to a high population density. This increases the chances of a successful catch. Lofoten's waters are teeming with a diverse range of fish species, including cod, halibut and haddock, among others. This diversity makes it a haven for both amateur and professional anglers.
2. Seasonal Opportunities
While the best time for cod fishing is during the winter months, Lofoten offers fishing opportunities year-round. Each season has its unique offerings, from summer mackerel to autumn coalfish.
Lofoten is famous for the seasonal migration of Atlantic cod, locally known as Skrei. This event between January and April attracts anglers from around the world.
3. Unique Experiences
Depending on the time of year, you can fish under the midnight sun or the Northern Lights, making for a truly unique experience. For the more adventurous, deep-sea fishing excursions are available, offering the chance to catch larger species like halibut.
4. Local Expertise
Numerous guided fishing tours are available, led by experienced local fishermen who know the best spots and techniques for a successful outing. Here at Lofoten Havfiske, our fishermen know the best fishing spots for different species!
5. Accessibility and Amenities
From fishing gear rentals to fish processing facilities, Lofoten Havfiske is well-equipped to meet the needs of anglers. We also offer boats for rent, with all necessities onboard.
Do you want to experience halibut fishing?
Halibut is a predatory fish that feeds on eating other fish and other life that lives on and along the seabed. It can be more than three meters long and the weight can exceed 300 kg. Spawning takes place in the period December – April, and during this period there is an official ban on fishing for halibut with nets, trawls and spinners.
Lofoten Havfiske & Rorbuopplevelser make sure to arrange fantastic experiences and fishing trips that will be long forgotten. Every year, from April onwards, we arrange for halibut fishing here in Lofoten.
